As an artist, Abstract Expressionism has always resonated deeply with me. Born in Potchefstroom, South Africa, my journey into the world of art has been fuelled by a fascination with colour, the spiritual journeys of people, nature, and animals. This fascination, combined with my technical background, has shaped my unique abstract expressionistic style.
From a young age, I was captivated by the power of art to convey emotions and tell stories without the need for words. This led me to explore various mediums and techniques, ultimately finding my voice through the vibrant, expressive forms of Abstract Expressionism. This movement, with its emphasis on spontaneity, emotional intensity, and the artist’s personal journey, felt like the perfect canvas for my creative expression.
My work is characterised by bold, dynamic compositions that capture movement and energy. I draw inspiration from the world around me, translating the beauty and complexity of nature, the intricacies of human emotion, and the spiritual connections that bind us into visual form. Each piece I create is an exploration of these themes, a visual diary of my thoughts, feelings, and experiences.
When I approach a new piece, I start with a vision in my mind, but the process itself is fluid and organic. I primarily work with acrylics, oils, and glass paint, but I also love experimenting with mixed media, incorporating elements like cement, precious stones, mosaic, metals, and pewter. This allows me to add texture and depth to my work, creating pieces that are not only visually striking but also rich with tactile qualities.
One of the most rewarding aspects of my artistic journey is the emotional response my work elicits from viewers. I strive to create art that speaks to the mind and soul, that invites people to pause, reflect, and connect with the piece on a deeper level. Whether it’s the vibrant colours, the intricate textures, or the abstract forms, I want my art to evoke a sense of wonder and introspection.
